A report by staffing agency Robert Half Technology ranked San Diego No. 1 on a list of 12 American cities where technology hiring is expected to grow rapidly in the first half of 2018. According to company’s latest IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. aq
Of the chief information officers surveyed for the report, 29 percent of respondents from San Diego companies said they intend to hire for full-time tech jobs in the first half of the new year. That’s up 14 percentage points from a year ago.
More than half of local tech executives said they plan to fill vacant roles in those six months. Expect to see continued demand in San Diego for talent in web development, development and operations (DevOps) and cybersecurity by internet companies and local startups.
That said, respondents from San Diego also noted encountering difficulties in hiring for such roles, with 61 percent of CIOs saying it is tough to find IT professionals to hire.
Skills in greatest demand, the respondents said, include cybersecurity (60 percent), wireless network management (52 percent) and database management (50 percent).
San Diego CIOs said their priorities for the next six months included maintaining security of IT systems and safeguarding company information (26 percent), upgrading existing systems for business efficiency (21 percent), innovation and helping to grow their businesses (21 percent), technology innovation and investing in new technologies (17 percent) and staff retention (14 percent).
