The Brewers Association released its annual rankings of the top 50 U.S. beer companies based on 2016 sales volumes.
Only one San Diego brewery made the top 10: Escondido-based Stone Brewery, which ranked No. 9. Green Flash Brewing Co. ranked No. 37 and Karl Strauss Brewing Co. ranked No. 41.
Topping the craft-only list once again was Pennsylvania’s D.G. Yuengling & Son. Boston Brewing Co. was No. 2, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was No. 3, New Belgium Brewing Co. was No. 4, Gambrinus was No. 5 Duvel Moortgat was No. 6, Bell’s Brewery Inc. was No. 7, Deschutes Brewery was No. 8 and Oskar Blues Brewing was No. 10.
“With such a broad range of brewers in today’s beer landscape, the leading small and independent producers have helped build the craft brewing industry to what it is today,” BA chief economist Bart Watson said via a release. “Embracing their experience and ability to thrive and overcome challenges, the top-producing craft brewers will continue to inspire, innovate and influence the future of beer.”
